ANIMATION DESIGN PERIODICITY PROPERTIES OF CHEMICAL ELEMENTS FOR UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Chemistry learning, particularly the topic of periodic properties of elements, is often considered difficult and uninteresting by high school students, which impacts their conceptual understanding. This research intends to create and construct a two-dimensional (2D) animation as a learning media for the periodic characteristics of chemical elements targeted at high school students, aiming to enhance learning effectiveness through the use of the most recent IUPAC data. The design approach employed follows the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases. After undergoing validation by specialists in the subject matter and instructional media. From the results of the material validation, the percentage obtained was 95.6% and the media validation obtained a percentage result of 89.3%, so that the material and animation that have been created are appropriate and valid. The final product—an animation with a duration of 8 minutes and 17 seconds—was published on YouTube and evaluated through a survey conducted with 30 students from MAN Kota Sorong using Google Forms The survey results showed a very positive response: 85% of students indicated agreement or strong agreement that the 2D animation enhanced their comprehension, supported the learning process, and increased engagement. It is concluded that this 2D animation is an effective learning media and is well accepted by students to support the comprehension of the periodic properties of elements.
